“art in nature” classes for children & youth

Elke teaches art classes and workshops at schools and community centres on Quadra Island and surrounding islands to children and youth. She holds a Bachelor of Education and is an experienced art teacher. Her nature-based art classes centre around experiences outdoors and cover a wide variety of techniques and mediums. school & community projects

Working with school groups, community centres, and local art galleries, Elke has led collaborative projects in which students exhibited their work within their communities. These projects generally highlight an ecologically-centred theme and provide a framework within which students can explore and express their individual creativity. As an experienced teacher Elke is able to manage groups of children and youth with professionalism while ensuring that students have fun throughout the learning and creative process.

nature sketching for all ages

Developed long before the invention of cameras, drawing what we observe in nature remains a unique and valuable process for discovering, exploring and understanding the world around us. Nature sketching differs from landscape drawing in that the artist is not necessarily trying to capture the grandeur of nature, but rather the small and fascinating details that make up our environment. Drawing directly in nature, immersed in the living environment, provides a unique experience that can’t be found indoors.
